Photoshoot Locations in Grand Rapids, Michigan
I've found all the best spots around Grand Rapids (and beyond) to shoot at.
The Highlands
The Highlands is a client (and photographer!) fav. Right off of Leonard by Blandford Nature Center, the Highlands is easy to get to with a parking lot right off the location- no hike required. There are a lot of great spots towards the back of the park as well, if you're willing to make the walk. There is even a birch tree that is a client favorite for photoshoots!
In the spring and summer, it is overgrown and green with wildflowers blooming around July and August. Fall brings Michigan's beautiful golden, orange, and red leaves around mid- October. This would even be a great spot for winter Christmas photos!
Riverside Park
Riverside park gives me NYC vibes. Cute park benches, lots of people running/ working out/ walking their dogs and having picnics at this park. This is a great place for lifestyle shots.. when you want that realistic day-in-the-park look. I would love to do a couples session here with a bike!
Huff Park
This is a small park located just outside of the city. It has a wetlands area, as well as a small area with trees, greenery, and in the spring-purple wildflowers. Book during the day to get lots of light streaming in!
Downtown Grand Rapids
If you are going for an urban vibe for your next photoshoot, consider choosing downtown Grand Rapids. You'll find lots of rooftop parking garages with views of the city in the background, neutral buildings, and streets and alleyways with character.
The GRAM
The Grand Rapids Art Museum in Rosa Parks Circle is a go-to for headshots. The neutral architectural backdrop is clean, polished, and professional.
The Civic Auditorium
This building is another classic and polished location for seniors, couples, and fashion. It is neutral toned, and has really cool pillars, doors, and staircases. Right next to it is the Amway Hotel, so if you like this location, we can do both!
The Amway Hotel
The Amway is such a beautiful location, and is located in the heart of downtown with lots of other great spots close by. My favorite spots at the Amway are the large windows and doors. It also makes a great backdrop from across the street, or even from a rooftop parking garage nearby.
Rooftop Parking Garages
These are great for many reasons: a great view of the city in the background, lots of open space, and it is a unique location for something a bit more edgy. Plus, you can park right at the top! If you're interested in a rooftop photoshoot, we can meet right there and walk down to the surrounding building for more shots. Rooftop parking ramps end up being a client favorite!
Cool Locations That Are a Bit Further...
These locations are worth the travel! I know of some great spots that are beyond Grand Rapids but great for photoshoots. Please contact me about travel fees for any of these specific locations.
Silver Lake Sand Dunes, Mears, MI
You truly need to see it in real life! About 1.5 hours outside of Grand Rapids, this location looks like miles and miles of never-ending sand. So much open space and usually a cool breeze in the summer, the sand dunes reigns as a top location of all time.
Oval Beach, Saugatuck
Oval Beach, located in Naugatuck, is around 45 minutes outside of Grand Rapids. I like this beach, because the parking lot is right off the beach- no hike required. It's super easy to get to, with restrooms available. What I also like about this beach is the sand dunes. It makes the location very diverse in terms of setting!
