Florals and Fabric Maternity Photoshoot

Lately, I've been wanting to capture motherhood. My background is in fashion, and most of my work revolves around some kind of creative inspiration, clothing, and a captivating subject. A few months ago I went on a maternity photoshoot with a friend and loved the experience so much, I decided I want to start offering maternity and motherhood photos to my clients. I asked a friend who is expecting if she would be interested in a session with me and she said yes!

This entire shoot was done in my home studio (a room in my house I converted to a studio with lighting and backdrops). I knew I wanted to incorporate some kind of plants/flowers as props, so I went to Pinterest for some inspiration. The inspiration I found used sheets and blankets as the backdrop for a cool, textural effect. I decided to use my seamless backdrop with a sheet draped on the floor so she could sit down easily. I also added another neutral blanket for more textures.

Right before our shoot, I went and bought some fruit we could use as props for some added color. I also had some fake (but very realistic looking) orchid flowers. All of the plants are my houseplants!

I made sure to put her in a dress that would for both seated and standing poses, and a warm toned coral dress that would pop in photos. After shooting in the dress, she changed into a more casual look.

Overall, the vibes were serene, relaxed, and a bit flora/fauna inspired with our props- a nod to motherhood and its beauty.
